Format

This is the second event in a series of 5 chess tournaments in the Freestyle Chess Tour. The finishing rank in each tournament will result in points counting towards an overall score. The player with the highest score after the 5 Grand Slam events are completed will be crowned the Freestyle Chess World Champion!

The tournament starts with two days of rapid playoffs in a Round Robin format, followed by six days of knockout matches with classical time control.

Qualifiers:

The players compete in a Round Robin with 11 games, meaning that they all play each other once. The time control is 10 minutes for the whole game + 10 seconds increment per move.

Top 8 in the Round Robin will qualify for the knockout, whereas 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th place are out.

Knockout:

The players who qualified will proceed and compete in a knockout consisting of Quarter Finals, Semi Finals, and a Final to determine the winner.

Each knockout match will consist of 2 games, and the time control is 90 minutes for the whole game + 30 seconds increment per move. If the score is 1-1 after the 2 games, the players will decide the winner in a tiebreak with 2 games of rapid chess.

The winners move on to the next stage of the knockout, while the losers face each other to determine all the finishing spots.
